Explora Cancels 2027-28 Sailings in Middle East and Red Sea
If you're booked on the Explora I's Arabian Gulf sailings (Nov 2027–Feb 2028) or the Explora V's Red Sea season (late Jan–mid-Mar 2028), your booking will be automatically cancelled with a full refund of the cruise fare. You'll also receive a 250-euro future cruise credit per person, for up to two guests, usable on a new booking within one year. Watch for new itineraries to open for booking on September 9, 2026, when the Explora I heads to South America and the Explora V to the Mediterranean.
Explora's pullback tracks the same calculus MSC just made with the World Europa staying in the Western Mediterranean rather than the Middle East for 2027-28 — two lines citing "the evolving situation in the region" in the same window is not a coincidence, even if neither says so outright. The redeployment choices are telling: South America for the Explora I and the Mediterranean for the newly entering Explora V both read as safer, higher-certainty markets than the Gulf or Red Sea. Guests come out fine — full refunds plus a 250-euro credit per person is generous as these things go, and the September 9, 2026 booking-open date gives real lead time. The losers are travel advisors who'd built 2027-28 Gulf/Red Sea packages around these ships and now have to rebuild from scratch. My read: book Explora's Med or South America runs with confidence, but I'd wait on any Gulf return until there's an actual sailing date, not just a hopeful line about "future Journeys."
